    Our  Banner

The Lord Jesus Christ is Jehovah-Nissi,  The Lord Our Banner

And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.       John 12:32

Jehovah:  the redemptive and covenant name of God, the Self-existent One Who reveals Himself.

Nissi:  'to be conspicuous, i. e. as a flag, a standard, a banner, a signal.'   The prime root of the word means 'to gleam from a far' and carries the idea of 'a flag fluttering in the wind'.

Jehovah-Nissi:  the combined name definition  -  The Self-existent One Who reveals Himself is our Banner.

Christ Jesus is the Banner of His Church!   The Lord is our Banner!   He is the Banner that waves in the heart and mind of every Believer!

A banner is to be lifted up and displayed, for all to see!

The scriptures teach us that as God's people we are to raise high the Lord Jesus as our Banner for all men to see!

How?   We do this, by the words we speak and the life we live!   Our very lives should reflect the very glory of God  .  .  .  thus showing Him off as our Banner!

In Psalm 63:3 and 145:4, the word 'praise' comes from the Hebrew word 'shabach', meaning to loudly, triumphantly, shout glory and honor to the Lord.

Because thy loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall loudly, triumphantly, shout glory and honor to thee.    Psalm 63:3,  'praise'  -  'shabach'.

One generation shall loudly, triumphantly, shout glory and honor of thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.    Psalm 145:4,  'praise'  -  'shabach'.

In Psalm 113:3 and 150:6, the word 'praise' comes from the Hebrew word 'halal', meaning to boastfully rave, celebrate, and make a huge demonstration of the Lord.

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be boastfully raved about, celebrated, and a huge demonstration made of it.    Psalm 113:3,  'praise'  -  'halal'.

Let everything that hath breath boastfully rave, celebrate, and make a huge demonstration of the Lord.   Boastfully rave, celebrate, and make a huge demonstration of our Lord, Jesus.    Psalm 150:6,  'praise' twice  -  both 'halal'.

In Psalm 9:1 and 9:2, the word 'praise' comes from the Hebrew word 'yadah', meaning to extend and wildly wave one's hands in adoration of the Lord.

I will extend and wildly wave my hands in adoration of thee, O Lord, with my whole heart;  I will show forth all thy marvelous works.    Psalm 9:1,  'praise'  -  'yadah'.

I will be glad and rejoice in thee, O Lord:  I will sing and extend and wildly wave my hands in adoration of thy name, O' Thou Most High.    Psalm 9:2,  'praise'  -  'yadah'.

In Psalm 50:23 and 68:32, the word 'praise' comes from the Hebrew word 'towdah', meaning to extend and raise one's hands in adoration of the Lord.

Whosoever offereth extended and raised hands in adoration glorifieth me:  and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God.    Psalm 50:23,  'praise'  -  'towdah'.

Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing and extend and raise your hands in adoration unto the Lord.    Psalm 68:32,  'praise'  -  'towdah'.

In Psalm 21:13 and 57:7, the word 'praise' comes from the Hebrew word 'zamar', meaning to make music unto the Lord with stringed instruments.

Be thou lifted up, Lord, in thy own strength: so will we sing and make music on stringed instruments of thy power.    Psalm 21:13,  'praise'  -  'zamar'.

My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and make music unto you Lord, on stringed instruments.    Psalm 57:7,  'praise'  -  'zamar'.

In Psalm 47:7 and 71:8, the word 'praise' comes from the Hebrew word 'tehillah' meaning to sing, or worship the Lord in song or hymn.

For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye songs and hymns of worship with understanding.    Psalm 47:7,  'praise'  -  'tehillah'.

Let my mouth be filled with songs and hymns of thee and with thy honor all the day long.    Psalm 71:8,  'praise'  -  'tehillah'.

In Psalm 68:19 and 145:1, the words 'blessed' and 'bless' come from the Hebrew word 'barak' meaning to kneel before the Lord in adoration.

Kneel in adoration before the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.    Psalm 68:19,  'blessed'  -  'barak'.

I will extol thee, my God, O King; and I will kneel in adoration before thy name for ever.    Psalm 145:1,  'bless'  -  'barak'.

The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.       Mark 12:29-30
