    Spirit of Leviathan

    Me . . Myself . . and  I          Pride and Arrogance

    Leviathan

    Sea-Serpent         Dragon        Sea-Monster

In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword

shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that

crooked serpent; and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.

                                                                                       Isaiah 27:1

In the book of Job, the whole context is an ongoing debate between Job and his friends.   Finally, God announces that He has had enough and demands an answer.

Where was thou when I laid the foundations of this earth?   Declare if thou hast understanding.   Job 38:4

God goes on to give Job an entire discourse about leviathan.   "And now, Job, who are you, who dares not arouse the unmastered leviathan, yet who dare resist Me, the beast's Creator; to My face?   Everything under the heavens is Mine; therefore who can have a claim against Me?";   Leviathan is the climatic revelation of the book of Job.   The fact that the Bible denotes an entire chapter, Job 41, describing leviathan to him indicates his importance.

God uses the sea-monster, Leviathan, to reveal to Job that Job's problem is pride.   There is a strong evil spirit named Leviathan.   Leviathan is an evil demonic spirit of pride.

God reveals the monster.   Some call him a crocodile or something else, but the Word calls him a dragon, sea-monster, or sea-serpent.

In that day the Lord with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and He shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.    Isaiah 27:1

       Strong's Concordance gives this definition:

Leviathan- livyathan, (3882), a wreathed animal or serpent, a large sea-monster.   The constellation of the dragon, Draco; also as a symbol of Babylon: mourning.

Dragon / Dragons- tanniyn (8577), a marine or land monster, sea-serpent or jackel; sea-monster, serpent, whale.

The context suggest some form of aquatic monster which dwells in the sea.   In the scripture, the sea represents nations of people.   There is a dragon in the sea (people or nations), and God is going to slay that dragon.

The nations of this world are consumed by this dragon or sea-monster.   This sea-monster is pride.   This evil, demonic spirit of pride manipulates and controls the masses of this world.

He beholdeth all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride. (Of all the beasts, he is the proudest, he reigns supreme over all the pride of the earth.)     Job 41:34

Another way of stating this is, 'he looks down on all who are haughty; he is a king or ruler over all those who are proud'.   Pride and leviathan are practically synonymous.   It is hard to separate them.

The spirit of Leviathan's most crucial work is in the area of keeping people from receiving the things of God and of the Holy Spirit and from moving into the very presence of Almighty God.   Leviathan's primary purpose and goal is to stop all true moves of the Holy Spirit, and all spiritual growth in the lives of the Believers.   He wants to stop the flow of the Anointing.

The modern church today is largely asleep because of the spirit Leviathan's work.   He loves to eclipse things.   Mythology associates him with the eclipse of the sun.   He wants to eclipse the S-O-N, Christ Jesus, in your life.   Leviathan wants to eclipse the True and Holy things of Almighty God in your life.   You don't have to allow this.   You can be free of it.

Thou didst divide the sea by thoy strength: thou brakest the heads of the dragons in the waters.   Thou brakest the heads of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.    Psalm 74:13-14

Many use this verse to say leviathan has multiple heads, some say four, some say seven, and some say twelve.   The word used for heads here is the Hebrew word Rosh(7218, Strong's Concordance) meaning: place, time, rank, captain, chief, ruler, shake, to shake the head.   Thus, not multiple heads, but one who has authority or power.

(Leviathan is the constellation Draco, or 'the Dragon', having 14 stars.   It is not the constellation Orion.   The constellation Orion is known as 'the Hunter', and has 7 main stars, none of which form the head of the constillation.   Pleades is a star cluster in the Taurus constellation, 'the Bull', not in the Orion constillation.)

       Therefore:

You divided the sea by your strength: you smashed the authority of the dragons in the waters.   You crushed the power of leviathan in pieces, and gavest him to be meat to the people inhabiting the wilderness.

The day and time has come and gone when God 'stripped' this evil spirit leviathan of all authority and power.   On the Cross, Jesus defeated all principalities and powers.   Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father waiting for the 'Church' to say 'enough is enough' and put the spirit of leviathan under the 'feet of Christ.'   Wake up Church, get the pride out!

Leviathan resides in the Holy Place, and is a counterfeiter.

Any studies on the tabernacle of Moses will show a fenced outer court with a tent-like structure on the inside containing two rooms.   The first room was the Holy Place, and the second room was the Holy of Holies.

As you cross the outer court, you encounter the Brazen Altar, a type and shadow of the sacrifice of Christ Jesu on the Cross of Calvary (salvation).

The Holy Place was entered daily by ministering priest and contained three pieces of furniture.   To the left, a massive candlestick or lampstand was lit and provided the only light.   This first room, the Holy Place, was a place of revelation and illumination by the Holy Spirit of God, symbolized by the oil burning lamps.   There was a table of shewbread to the right with twelve loaves of shewbread which were replenished weekly, symbolizing nourishment from Jesus, the Bread of Life.   In the middle, next to the veil, a golden altar of incense made sweet smelling smoke to go up as a type of worship and prayer to God and as a type of baptism of the Holy Spirit.

This is where Leviathan has his place.   He is more interested in spirit-filled people than anyone else.   One of the big problems in Spirit-filled churches is pride.   We are so proud of our revelation!   We do have some truth, but God is to wise to give any one of us the whole thing.

We are three part beings; we are a spirit, we have a soul, and we live in a body.   Our soul is a type of the Holy Place where Leviathan works. He is at work in our soul; in our mind, emotions, and will.

The spirit of Leviathan attempts to keep us from entering the Holy of Holies, into the very presence of God.   No man could go there except Moses and the High Priest; and then only once a year.   This is the third veil, and Leviathan does not want us there.   This third veil was rent when Jesus died on the cross.   This was the veil between the Spirit-filled realm and the very presence of God.   Here Leviathan stands to block entrance.

The spirit of Leviathan attempts to snuff out the lamps (knowledge and understanding); cut off the bread (the manna); and he tries to keep us from offering up daily incense (prayer in the Spirit).   He does not want us to move in the Holy Spirit; to have words of knowledge, speak in tongues, or any other spiritual gift.   He will choke us off with spiritual deafness and blindness, causing us to be tongue-tied.   Leviathan will imitate the Holy Spirit and cause false gifts, healings, and even miracles to manifest in the believers.

Out of his nostrils goeth smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron (His nostrils belch forth smoke, thick as the fumes of a seething pot.).     Job 41:20

The smoke from Leviathan nostrils is false prayer and false worship at the altar of incense, and he is commissioned to counterfeit the genuine pentecostal experience.   Because the person is so bound up with pride, he cannot really praise God.   He is too important, too bound up in himself, to give any real praise and worship to God.

His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal (His arrogance and haughtiness stems from the tight sealed scales covering his body.).   Job 42:15

Leviathan's scales are so close one to another that no air can come between them.   The scales are joined one to another and cannot be pulled apart.   In scripture; air, breath, and wind are synonymous with the Holy Spirit.

The reason many people get so shut in is because of the effects of Leviathan's tight coils around them, inhibiting the moving of the Holy Spirit.   They cannot hear or discern the Holy Spirit, and they say they never get a word from the Lord or move in the gifts.   The reason is that no air of the Holy Spirit is able to get in because this demon has such a strangle hold.

The spirit Leviathan wants us to have the counterfeit; and if we get that and are satisfied with it, he has us.   Leviathan in the pastor, teacher, evangelist, etc. charms or hypnotizes the people, and they are deceived and seduced into believing they are operating through the Holy Spirit.   Today, many are experiencing counterfeit gifts.   Many are requiring deliverance from false, error filled ministries.   Increasingly, deliverance ministries are having to cast out spirits of false tongues.

One of Leviathan's chief jobs is to mock, come against, and block deliverance and/or deliverance ministries.   Most people who fight the deliverance ministry have powerful leviathan demons; and are, therefore, raely delivered.   Many of the ministers who refuse to open up to the ministry of deliverance are being controlled by a leviathan spirit.

The reason pastors, teachers, evangelist, etc. accept leviathan's lies is because they refuse to believe that they may have demons and are in need of deliverance.  It's not a 'shame' to have demons, the shame is not acknowledging, repenting, and getting rid of it through deliverance.   Instead, they teach the people 'Christians cannot have demons'.

The 'true' deliverance of God is casting out demons according to Mark 16:17- 18:

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils;  .  .  .  they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.    Mark 16:17-18

The Bible says that if we do not love the truth, God will cause us to believe a lie.   The only way to get rid of the demonic influence of Leviathan is to 'cast him out in the Name of Jesus'.

Leviathan stops spiritual growth in people.   They cannot pray or read their bible.   They go to sleep during services.   Whenever there are severe problems with bible study; concentration on spiritual goals; restrictions and bondages which hinder worship or just about anything which is genuinely spiritual and of the Lord; there you will find Leviathan operating.

Depending upon how much control Leviathan exerts over an individual, he can and will hinder and/or stop bible study, genuine edification of praying in the Spirit with understanding, heartfelt praise and worship, fellowship with the Lord's people, and any revival movements.

One of the immediate blessings resulting from the expulsion of Leviathan is a radical apparent in outlook and the whole approach to the spiritual growth process.   Many report a clearing of confusion and a great increased ability to read and retain the Word.

His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone (His heart is as hard as a rock; solid and unyielding as a nether millstone.).    Job 41:24

Leviathan's heart is said to be firm as a stone, hard as a piece of nether millstone.   Here, hard and cold heartedness are tied to Leviathan.   There is no compassion, grace, or mercy.

In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him (Strength dwells in his neck and terror dances before him.).    Job 41:22

The neck speaks of the will.   Stiff-necked pride and stubbornness are with Leviathan.   Sometimes strength in the neck can be a negative thing, because Jesus spoke of the stiff-necked and uncircumcised heart.   The bowing of the neck is rebellion, which brings us back to pride.

The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved(The folds of his flesh close in on each other, firmly and immoveably cast upon him.).    Job 41:23

People that are prideful become stubborn and are just as the flakes or folds of Leviathan's flesh, joined together, firm in themselves and unable to be moved.   These people cannot be told anything.   They know it all.   Haughtily they speak: "God showed me that a Christian can't have a demon.   You are in deception, brother".

There is little success with unteachable people.   The critical time comes when one's ultimate confidence in God as the object and source shifts to oneself as the object and source.   The name of the game for a person with the Leviathan spirit is; 'me, myself, and I'.   Look at what I've done;   Look at me.   Man am I good.;   I don't need anyone or anything.   God must be our source and the object of all we want.   When such a shift takes place; and I becomes the source, then, I become legalistic:   If I don't do this or that, it's not going to be right.

The dictionary defines pride as an over high opinion of oneself; exaggerated self-esteem, conceit; haughty behavior, arrogance, delight or satisfaction in one's own achievements.   God hates all of this.

You may say you have no pride but rebellious pride hides.   Leviathan is sneaky and subtle and can easily hide himself.   He can twist, writhe, and slip out of the way; causing one to reject dependence on, and subjection to God.   He is quick to attribute to self the honor due to God.   Therefore, this pride is the very root and essence of all sin.

God says, I will not share my glory with anyone; and if you don't give glory to me and my name, a curse will come upon your blessings.

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.    Isaiah 42:8

And now, O ye priest, this commandment is for you.   If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the Lord of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.     Malachi 2:1-2

Long ago Lucifer said "I will exalt myself; I will sit on the sides of the north and be king" (Isaiah 14).   The very root of his downfall was pride.   Me, Myself, and I.   The awful worship of me, who needs no help.

The fallen devil, as described in Luke 10:18, still has a craving to be like God.   As a result of the fall, our whole nature has become infected with pride.   The temptation to know good and evil, to eat of that forbidden tree was motivated by pride in Adam and Eve.

Just think, the tree of life was also there in the garden, and God did not forbid them to eat it.   Yet, they went straight over to eat of the tree of good and evil, not the tree of life.   That is pride.

We are descended from Adam; and therefore, easily affected by pride.   This is why Leviathan is so strong, powerful, and deeply rooted in us.   The fascination with the forbidden, feeds Leviathan who wreaths himself tightly in the old self.

Can thou draw out leviathan with a hook?   Or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down (Can you draw out the wreathed sea-serpent, the dragon, with a fishing hook?   Or his tongue with a rope snare)?     Job 41:1

Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out (Flames shoot forth from his mouth, bright as a burning torch).     Job 41:19

His breath kindleth coals, and a flame goeth out of his mouth (His very breath will set coals aflame, and fire leaps forth from his mouth).     Job 41:21

Tongue problems are rooted in Leviathan.   When he gets in the church and looses some of that fire, he sets the whole place ablaze.

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.     James 3:6

The Leviathan spirit carries the very nature and works of the accuser of the brethren.   The first way that this spirit will attack is with his tongue.   The lying, critical tongue: this spirit attacks out of his mouth with lies, gossip, accusation, criticism, faultfinding, and slander.   He wants to slander your character and bring reproach on your name.

Leviathan is working today through the body of Christ; and we see many churches, ministers, and organizations bringing accusations against one another.   There is a critical, faultfinding spirit at work in churches today judging and speaking against moves of God, ministries, and denominations different from one another.   If you're a quarreler, contentious, always arguing with people, your problem is pride and the spirit of Leviathan.

He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment (He makes the deep to boil like a pot: he makes the sea foam like a pot of ointment).     Job 41:31

Leviathan makes the deep to boil like a pot: and the sea foam like a pot of ointment.   This brings us back to self again.   The deep is where the real you is located.   There is a deep in me, and I'm very careful about who I let in there.

The Leviathan spirit will cause that deep to boil.   There will be a restlessness and turmoil, a constant agitation, deep inside.   Sometimes you cannot sleep well because there is something moving around, boiling in there.   When we get down to the real, true self, we are where Leviathan has his stronghold.   Also, note that this boiling is not only in you; but that it also stirs up other people around you (the sea).

Leviathan can come in to strangle your experience in God in such a way that you can slumber for years without notice.   Many in the church today are asleep spiritually; and God says, "It is time to wake up"!

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.     Ephesians 5:14

Another area where Leviathan works is in causing a variety of learning difficulties for youngsters, especially reading problems.    Leviathan is the source of confusion and lack of ability to retain things we hear and/or see.

Often pains, stiffness in the neck and shoulder region, and headaches located in the back of the heard have been traced to Leviathan.   Although this is not the only source for such discomfort, for problems of this nature, check for Leviathan.

Submit yourself therefore to God.   Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.    James 4:7

You can resist the devil all day long, but there must first be submission to God if you are really going to be free.   You must say, "God, I'm going to have to break out of this pride and become submissive to You.   I humble myself before you and ask for your help."   This is the starting place to overthrow pride.

The Good News is that Jesus is both the Answer and the Deliverer.   We know that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus.   May we all humble ourselves before God and root out all pride for the destruction of Leviathan in the Name of Jesus.
