    Watchmen on the Walls

    The Intercessors

I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day and night.   You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.      Isaiah 62:6-7

In Isaiah 62:6-7 God speaks of His activity to call intercessors into full-time ministry.   He is 'setting watchmen' in place.   God is rearranging the lifestyles and callings of His servants.   He is breaking into the lives of the Body of Christ causing people to realize that they are called to live serious lives of prayer.

Many people are living lives of frustration, confusion, constantly crying out to God for direction on their calling.   When in reality God is calling them to Intercession.

Now shall not God bring JUSTICE for His elect, who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them?   I tell you that He will bring about justice for them speedily . . .         Luke 18:7-8  (NAS)

Today, around the world, God is restoring day and night (Intercession) prayer as part of His commitment to restore His Church to release justice in the earth.

Day and night prayer changes the spiritual atmosphere of a city.   Even if all the demons of hell empowered every 'religious man' to resist God's revival, they could not prevail.   No power can stop 'Speedy Justice' as God response to day and night prayer.

Jesus is an eternal intercessor.   He loves prayer and understands the importance of it.   He is restoring it to its rightful place of dignity and honor.   Jesus is about to take the 'intercessors' out of 2nd class status in the Body of Christ to honor them with a new anointing and authority in the Spirit.

    The Necessity of Prayer

Why Pray?   Isn't God Sovereign?   Doesn't His Word say He already knows what we have need of before we ask?   Can our prayers actually change things?   Does an all powerful, sovereign God need our involvement through prayer?   If God is going to do something regardless of whether or not we pray, then why should we waste our time praying?

What if  .  .  .  God does nothing on the earth save in answer to Prayer?

    God's Original Plan

The answer to why prayer is necessary lies in God's original plan when He created Adam.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.   So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.      Genesis 1:26-27

God gave Adam and Eve and their descendants dominion over the entire earth and over all creation.   The name Adam means: 'Man' or 'Human being'.   Adam represents all of us  .  .  .  what God intended for Adam, He intended for the entire human race.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him?   And the son of man, that thou visitest him?   For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor.   Thou madest him to have dominion (rule) over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:  All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;  The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.       Psalm 8:4-8

Vs 5  -  'crowned with Glory'.   The word 'Glory' there means 'heavy' or 'weighty'.   This is linked to the concept of 'authority'.   Adam 'carried a lot of weight' or 'a lot of authority'.

The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's; but the earth hath He given (assigned rule of) to the children of men.       Psalm 115:16

Adam was to be God's 'manager', 'steward', or 'governor'.   God didn't give away ownership of the earth, but He did assign the responsibility of governing it to humanity.

So complete and final was Adam's authority over the earth that he had the power to give it's rulership away to another!   Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden when he disobeyed God's command not to eat of the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil.   In the act of disobedience to God, Adam handed the authority and rulership of the earth over to Satan.

This was seen clearly when Satan was tempting Jesus and offered to make Him a sub-ruler if He would bow to him.

And the devil, taking Him (Jesus) up into an high mountain, showed unto Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.   And the devil said unto Him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them:  for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will, I give it.   If thou shalt worship me, all shall be thine.   And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.       Luke 4:5-8

So complete and final was God's decision to do things on earth through human beings that it cost God the Incarnation to regain what Adam gave away.   He had to be a part of the human race.   He had to become flesh.   Without question, humans were forever to be God's link to authority and activity on the earth.

God works through the Prayers of His People

This is the reason for the necessity of prayer . . .

God chose, from the time of the Creation, to work on the earth through humans, not independent of them.   He always has and always will, even at the cost of having to become one.

Though God is Sovereign and All-Powerful, scripture clearly tells us that He has limited Himself, concerning the affairs of earth, to working through human beings.

Is this not the reason the earth is in such a mess?   Not because God wills it so, but because of His need to work and carry out His will through people.

He needs us to ask for His Kingdom (authority) to come, His will to be done, Matthew 6:10.   Surely, He wouldn't want us to waste our time asking for something that was going to happen anyway, would He?

It is through our prayers, our asking for him to move and intervene on our behalf, that circumstances and situations change.

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ASK NOT.       James 4:2

If we want things to change in our lives then we need to spend quality time in prayer asking God, inviting Him in, allowing Him to move on our behalf.

    Full time Intercessors

God is calling men and women across this nation to a full time ministry as Intercessors.

Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord.   Ezekiel 13:5

The phrase 'the house of Israel' is really saying 'the people'.   It is referring to people.   This verse is saying to the intercessor, you have not stood in the gaps, you have not made up the hedge, you have not prayed for the people!   God is saying to us today, you have not prayed for the salvation and deliverance of the people!   You have not prayed for the spiritual, emotional, mental, or physical healing of the people!   You have not prayed for the needs or the prosperity of the people!   You have not prayed for the people!

And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.       Ezekiel 22:30

God is calling for intercessors to stand in the gaps and make up the hedges for the Land.   The land is of great importance to God.   God is saying to us today, you have not prayed for the deliverance of the land!   You have not prayed for the healing of the land!   You have not prayed for the land!

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and will heal their land.       II Chronicles 7:14

Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.   Psalm 2:8

God is telling us to pray for the people!   Pray for the heathen, pray for the unsaved!   Ask for their salvation, and He will give them to you as an inheritance in the Kingdom of God!    Pray for the land and He will bring deliverance and healing!   Pray and ask for the land and He will give it to you as a possession in the Kingdom of God!

As Watchmen on the Walls we must intercede for every person, every home, every school, every business, every church, every city, every county, every state, and for this entire Nation.   We must ASK God to intervene on our behalf.   We must ask for 'Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done'!
